It’s breastfeeding month again and it is a hectic but fun filled month which I hope will increase breastfeeding awareness in the Philippines!
August 1 – 7, 2012 is the 20th World Breastfeeding Week and the theme set is Understanding the Past – Planning the Future: Celebrating 10 years of WHO/UNICEF’s Global Strategy for Infant and Young Child Feeding.
This year, my husband – Stanley Ong Photography and I had a personal project – we wanted to recreate old breastfeeding paintings into modern photographs. We are happy to make this dream come true and we were able to have a photoshoot with the participation of these lovely, breastfeeding moms (with COANM)!
In conceptualizing this photoshoot, the theme is: “inspired by the past, interpreted by modern day moms to be preserved for the future generations.”
These photographs will be exhibited at Batasan from August 27-29, 2012 to coincide with the campaign of LATCH together with Arugaan and Akbayan to create awareness of the monster bill. They will also be exhibited at the Senate through the Office of Sen. Pia Cayetano during the last 2 weeks of August. Dates are still being finalized for the Senate exhibit so more details will be announced later.
Meanwhile, the photographs will be exhibited at the St. Luke’s Global City’s Lactation Unit from August 1 – 7, 2012 then will move to St. Luke’s Quezon City from August 11 – 18, 2012. This will coincide with the very first L.A.T.C.H. class in SLMC-QC! The venue will be at the ABC Conference room, 2nd Floor, St. Luke’s Medical Center, Quezon City. However, since slots are limited, registration is required and attendance of the husband or other support companion is highly encouraged. If you’re interested to join this class, please text 09228939965 and provide your name, due date, contact number, email and name of companion.
LATCH co-founder Jen CC Tan of Next9 will be holding breastfeeding sessions at Rustan’s on August 4 (Makati) and 18 (Shangri-La) from 3-7pm. Abbie Yabot will also be holding breastfeeding consultations in Rustan’s on August 25-26, 2012. She will be in Cebu for a breastfeeding class on September 1, 2012.
This month’s La Leche League meeting at Mothercare in Bonifacio High Street will be on 18 August 2012, 1030am and will focus on working mothers.
If you’re looking for some shopping, The Medical City will be holding a Mother-Baby Bazaar and Exhibit at the 2nd and 5th floor MATI Bridgeway and TMC foyer from August 1 to 7, 2012. Hubby Stan’s photographs will be exhibit but this is a different set from our personal project. I will also be doing a breastfeeding testimonial during the opening ceremony on 1 August 2012 at 9am. My friends Jonie of Mamaway and Maricel of MedelaMoms will also be joining the bazaar. Hope you can drop by!
There will also be a Clearance Clearout Sale this weekend at the Fun Ranch. Fellow LATCH Mompreneur Bessie of Nursingmom will be there along with other brands like Googoo & Gaga, Mommy Matters and many more! Drop by from 3 – 5 August 2012 for deals up to 75% off.
Mi’Ann of Babymama will also be offering a special for breastfeeding month – her bestselling Spectra breastmilk storage bags will be 50% off for the whole month of August. From 200p, each box is now P100 only! Limit 2 per customer.
On August 25, it’s time to go shopping at All About Baby! at Rockwell Tent. This is a yearly bazaar sponsored by Working Mom Magazine. You can visit your favorite nursing wear brands here such as Mamaway, Blissful babes and of course, my booth – Mama.Baby.Love.
Medela Moms will also be busy this August. They will be conducting their very first Lactation Counseling Seminar for Medical Professionals at The Medical City on 2 August 2012 to be taught by Abbie Yabot, PGH-certified lactation counselor. The Breastfeeding Club’s Annual Baby Shower is also scheduled on August 4, 2012. This event is free for all Breastfeeding Club Members. If you’re not yet a member, you can pay the membership fee of P500 during the shower and get into all succeeding classes and events for free! For more details about the baby shower click this link. Update: 31 July 2012
I came from St. Luke’s Global City and received a flier of their activities for Breastfeeding Week! I also got the chance to meet their Lactation Manager, Joyz and see their Lactation Unit. See flier for details. Activities are open to the public 🙂
Upate: 2 August 2012
I gave a testimonial as a breastfeeding mom and an advocate during yesterday’s opening ceremony for The Medical City’s World Breastfeeding Week celebration. They have several activities lined up. I also visited their breastfeeding center and met their lactation nurses and midwife. Since March 2012, the Breastfeeding Center has been visiting new moms to assist them in breastfeeding their babies! See fliers for the activities at TMC. Don’t forget to visit the bazaar at the 5/F Bridgeway!
